Conference in Berkeley

Oliver and I woke up early Saturday and drove over to Berkeley for the J.K. Russel Research Fellowship in Religion and Science Conference. This year's fellow is Francisco J. Ayala, and he spoke about his new book "Darwin's Gift to Science and Religion."

Oliver was a respondent at the conference and presented his new theodicy in a paper titled "Love Actually."

His presentation generated some discussion...actually it generated the most discussion of the day. His work is somewhat provocative, and, unfortunately, often misunderstood.

After the conference we went to dinner with Professor Ayala and one of Oliver's colleagues. We discovered that Professor Ayala, in addition to being a very good biologist and philosopher, is also a wine enthusiast and had brought some bottles of wine from grapes from his vineyard to share with members of CTNS. Here is a photo of us all as we wrapped up the evening.
