Goodbye Runty

Our gecko Runty died on Wednesday. She had been sick, but not for very long, so it was a bit of a shock.
Runty was one of our first geckos. When we were still living in Texas, Oliver came home one day with two eggs in two cups. We kept them in a warm place and a few weeks later they hatched and we had two tiny, very feisty geckos. One of them was very fierce and always hissing at us - we named her Spike. The other was on the small side and much mellower - we named her her Runty. When she grew up, Runty belied her name and became one of our biggest geckos. She kept her mellow demeanor and was one of the few geckos that tolerated being held. Of all our geckos, Runty has been the healthiest (except for Mathilda - she's a tank). She always had a good appetite and stored lots of energy in her big tail. When she fell sick we really expected her to recover. In fact, she still had a lot of energy stored in her tail when she died. Her death was really unexpected. We are happy she did not suffer long, but we will miss her. Goodbye Runty.
