Apples
The same neighbors that had a bunch of peaches earlier in the summer now have a bunch of apples. They gave some to the nuns, who gave some to us. They don't spray their trees, and so the apples are a little wormy, which makes them not very good for eating out of hand, but really good for baking.
After some careful slicing and washing -
I had about eight cups of apples -
And I put them in a crisp -
The topping is yellow because I used cornmeal in the crumbs, rather than the usual wheat flour (next time I'm going to stick to using flour, the cornmeal was too crumbly).

It was a nice end-of-summer, beginning-of-fall, (mostly) locally grown meal. Which we got so excited about eating that we forgot to take pictures.
