Inauguration Day

Finally! We have a new president of the United States of America, Barak Hussein Obama.

When two years ago, Obama announced that he will run for office, I was absolutely convinced that this country is not ready for a black man in the White House. But it seems that after over a decade in this country I still am unable to assess the public mood accurately. Eight years ago, I was certain that George Walker Bush would not be elected president. Well, in this case I can say with absolute conviction: I love to be wrong!

It was a very moving ceremony. In between the pictures of Obama taking the stage, taking the oath, and giving his speech the American TV stations showed pictures of African-Americans around the country, many in tears of joy. Yesterday we celebrated Martin Luther King Day, and it was absolutely impossible to not think of King's speech he delivered 1963 at the other end of the Wahington Mall, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Now we will see whether the man Obama will live up to the hope that has sprung around his person.

Be taht as it may, it can only get better... And we are quite happy with how this election worked out. Even Marvin the house fish in anticipation of the day made a rather happy bubble nest:
