Only in America

One of the bonuses of a cross-cultural marriage is that you get unique insights into a culture that you can't get from text books, or from watching Rick Steves on PBS.

I recently learned the following items are not found in Germany:
  • Fudge - Oliver says he never had it before coming here. He does point out that there is good chocolate in Germany. I'm guessing there probably isn't any peanut butter fudge either, since peanut butter seems to not be appreciated across the Atlantic.
  • Muffins - Though they have started to make an appearance recently.
  • Candy canes - I'm guessing there are other peppermint flavored treats though.
  • Caramel corn - No baseball = no cracker jacks?
  • Apple pie - WRONG. They DO have apple pie! I don't know what that means for the saying that something is "as American as apple pie".
Oh, and I have to point out, for Irene's sake, that there are also no Peppermint Patties in Germany. You have to come visit to get those!
