A trip home

We spent last week home on Bainbridge celebrating G'ma Fran's 96th birthday and the 4th of July. We didn't take that many photos, but my Dad sent us some he took with his cell phone.

We really enjoyed seeing everyone, especially my nieces. Summertime on Bainbridge has many good activities for little girls - we rolled down the hill in the grass, collected and tossed pine cones (no. not at cars. yet. ;) and picked lots of raspberries.

Oli and I also got out on our own a bit. We enjoyed a beautiful evening by the Poulsbo marina after my grandma's birthday party.

And we took a walk in Fort Ward State Park. We caught a photo of the ferry boat heading to Seattle.
The 4th of July was a big day. We spent part of the day out at Belfair with my sister-in-law's family. We ate hot dogs, BBQ'd oysters (I haven't had those in years!) and Oli ate his very first s'more! (For those not familiar with s'mores, here is how to make one: take a marshmellow [Mäusespeck], put it on a the end of a stick, hold it over a fire and turn it until it gets toasty brown. In the meantime, take 2 graham crackers [ähnlich einem Leibnizkeks] and set them down on a rock near the fire. Put a chocolate square on one of the crackers. Let them sit while you roast the marshmellow so that they warm up and the chocolate starts to soften. When the marshmellow is roasted, sandwich it between the crackers and pull it off the stick. What you are left with is gooey roasty marshmellow and melty drippy chocolate between two warm graham cracker squares. Yum!)

After we swam and ate in Belfair, it was time to go to my brother's house and swim and eat some more!
We particularly had fun doing dives with my older niece.

Then the evening came and it was time for fireworks. My nieces got glowing necklaces to celebrate.

There were also some sparklers to be waved around on the beach.

It was a beautiful evening and a great trip.
