Our gecko Spike died on Saturday. She had been sick for a long time - about a year - so I'm happy she is no longer suffering. Since Geckos are cold blooded, they have slow metabolisms. Consequently, their deaths can sometimes be long and protracted (however, this wasn't the case with Runty who died rather suddenly last month).
We are now down to the last of our four original geckos - Mathilda, who seems to be going strong. Plus we have 5 of the "next generation" geckos - all of Lucky and Mathilda's offspring. We enjoy all our geckos, but Runty and Spike were very special. We hatched them out from eggs when we still lived in Texas - before I had a real job, before we had furniture, and before we had wedding bands on our fingers.
My favorite memories of Spike are of her sitting in her bowl to stay cool on a hot day and when she would do her Snoopy routine to let us know it was time to feed her.
Goodbye Spike.

Oh no, sorry to hear about Spike. She was a great gal. She was very feisty when I was giving her medicine 2 years ago. I'll always remember her and her black eye.
